In our Cardiology Center, many cardiological diseases from hypertension to metabolic syndrome and from coronary artery diseases to heart rhythm disorders are successfully treated.

Our experienced specialist doctors, who closely follow the latest developments in their field, successfully carry out the analysis, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases in the field of electrophysiology, echocardiography, cardiac catheterization, coronary angiography, balloon/stent coronary procedures such as and in other fields of interventional cardiology.

About our Cardiology Center

Procedures commonly performed by our Heart Center team:

  • Cardiac catheterization and angiography

Coronary vessels supply the heart muscle, and atherosclerosis is the buildup of fatty plaques in these vessels, potentially leading to blockages or stenosis. Such blockages can cause chest pain and heart attacks. The main prevention strategy is to address risk factors.

Key treatments include managing diabetes, losing weight, treating hypertension, lowering high cholesterol and triglycerides, quitting smoking, and exercising regularly.

  • Coronary angiography and Cardiac Catheterization

If symptoms suggest stenosis or coronary artery abnormalities are found in pretests (eg, stress test, thallium test), cardiac catheterization and coronary angiography are performed to locate and evaluate the stenosis. Treatment options for critical stenosis include balloon angioplasty with stent placement or bypass surgery, both of which are performed safely nowadays.

Cardiac catheterization, a diagnostic procedure dating back to the 1930s and widely used since 1953, primarily uses the femoral artery, with brachial vessels rarely used. It is a diagnostic method, not a treatment, that involves imaging the cardiac chambers and coronary arteries using contrast material and measuring the associated pressures.

  • Percutaneous valvuloplasty with mitral balloon

The mitral valve, located between the left atrium and the ventricle, can become narrowed due to thickening of the leaflets, a condition called mitral stenosis. This narrowing prevents the flow of oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left ventricle, causing the left atrium to enlarge and leading to blood pooling in the lungs. Symptoms include shortness of breath, cough, palpitations, and in severe cases, coughing up blood (haemoptysis).

Treatment for mitral stenosis varies depending on its severity. Mild cases may require drugs such as diuretics to reduce lung congestion and beta-blockers for palpitations. For more advanced stenosis, treatments include percutaneous mitral balloon valvuloplasty (PMBV) or open heart surgery to repair or replace the mitral valve.

Percutaneous mitral balloon valvuloplasty involves the use of a balloon to dilate the narrowed mitral valve. Compared to open heart surgery, PMBV offers several advantages when performed in suitable patients.
